Attackratallie's NEO Tenna AU:
Shattered Screen

Also known as Shattered Screens AUTenna, becoming so desperate that the lightners have stopped watching him, decides to pick up Spamton's phone after he walked out on the benefactor (notably NOT the final phone call). The benefactor answers and tells Tenna of the NEO body, but for a price: he has to pay by giving up his sentience and condemning himself to a life of pain.Timeline wise, the events in the prologue happen before chapter 1, 2, and 3 of Deltarune, specifically in the "Big Shot" era. This means that Spamton isn't encountered in chapter 2 at all, but instead in chapter 3.

Designs

The benefactor doesn't give Tenna the benefit of creating a new body, so Tenna has to make some adjustments to his own in order to "fit" into NEO

Prologue / Backstory

Tenna ends up picking up Spamton's phone before he hangs up and ends up getting into contact with the benefactor. Spamton eventually finds out.

In-game mechanics and story

TV world works out a bit differently now that tenna is NEO - first thing's first: you meet Spamton there of all people

The Design and Backstory

Notable design elements:- his screen is notably broken with the colour bar colours spilling out everywhere as a watery liquid
- his TV head is irregularly long
- constant smoke is emitting from the vents on his head and occasional smoke from his arm sockets
- where his top pair of arms and torso attatch, there are light rays, directly referencing tenna's sprite when he gets cleaved by the roaring knight
- 4 set of arms
- Torso is attached to legs via a metal thing
- ball jointed!
- differently structures wings
- fabric on the back end of his legs that are intended to be reminiscent of his tailcoat

STORY:After being informed on the whereabouts of the NEO body, Tenna takes it back to TV world, but instead of uploading his consciousness into the empty disk, he is instructed by the benefactor to basically mutilate himself in order to perfectly merge with the NEO body.NEO was originally specifically designed and tailor made for Spamton so the design of the mecha is incredibly specialized to him, but to the benefactor, it doesn’t matter who is piloting NEO, as long as somebody can fulfill the role. So what if the CRT had to break a few limbs to use the body? The benefactor certainly wasn’t going to make a new NEO when a perfectly good one is sitting right there!Tenna sets up a "maintenance" room SOMEWHERE in TV world (I'm struggling with figuring out where) to setup a station for him to merge with the NEO body.DON'T. READ. AHEAD. IF YOU ARE BAD WITH BODY HORROR OR SELF MUTILATION-------------------------------------------------First, he hollows out his chest cavity and places NEO inside of him, where it will eventually grow and merge with his own mechanical body
He separates his own torso from his legs, allowing for more surface area for the NEO body to grow.
He takes his arms off, first his left arm via his right, and slams his right arm against the floor and wall until it eventually breaks
He bashes his own head against the wall until the glass covering his screen breaks, allowing his head to grow and morph
Painfully sharpening the plugs on his tail by scraping them against the wall or the glass of his own screen
-------------------------------------------------Tenna would occasionally take breaks and just. Sit there. Looking at what he's done. At some point, Spamton walks in on him staring at the ground and absolutely freaks the heck out“Tenna? Tenna what did you do?”
“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?”
“Tenna… it wasn’t supposed to be you. IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE ME”
“You… you weren’t supposed to suffer”
“I was going to do it for the both of us”
“It was always going to be me…”
“What… what have you done to yourself…”
“You were beautiful"

Prologue/Premise/Backstory

Tenna knows that Spamton gets all his fame from his mysterious benefactor, and after WEEKS of being ignored by the lightners and thus hitting an all time low, Tenna become desperate and decides to talk to Spamton’s benefactor after Spamton storms out on the phone one night (THIS IS NOT SPAMTON’S FINAL PHONE CALL)
At first, the phone emits nothing but garbage noise, uninterested in Tenna and any propositions he tries to make, but then Tenna starts showing intense levels of desperation
“Please please please answer”
“I don’t have anything left anymore”
“Please… this could solve everything”
"I KNOW you can fix it just like how you fixed Spamton"
“Please… just help me out”
“...”
“...”
“I’ll do anything to make this work”
“Just… give me a chance”
"Please..."
Gaster, or friend, or whoever hears how desperate Tenna is, and more importantly, how willing he is to do anything. The benefactor makes himself understandable and begins to talk to Tenna, telling him about the NEO body
Tenna begins to formulate a plan and breaks into queen’s basement easily, making this pre-chapter anything, this is during their big shot era, before he signed the contract with Spamton.
Tenna takes the NEO body back to TV world, but instead of uploading his consciousness into the empty disk, he is instructed by the benefactor to basically mutilate himself in order to perfectly merge with the NEO body (To learn more about the process, see the designs section).
Spamton eventually walks in on Tenna doing this to himself and has a breakdown over it. Tenna, unphased and willing to do whatever it takes to get the lightner's attention back, simply requests Spamton to stay with him. So stay he shall.Spamton stays with Tenna as he transforms into his NEO body, wincing and turning away when Tenna breaks a new part of himself. However, sometimes Spamton just can't help but look and stare. He couldn't leave because Tenna begged and pleaded for Spamton to stay with him, to stay with him forever. In this universe, the true nature of NEO is to forget who you are and lose sentience in return for power and freedom. It is similar to the thorn ring as well, hurting its user for more of that power. When one initially pilots NEO, they will still have consciousness and awareness, their own hopes and desires. Eventually, however, the experience will fade into complete and pure ecstasy and mania, a chase for power and attention, endless fervor wanting for more.Spamton knew this and Tenna was told this by the benefactor before he agreed to steal and pilot the NEO body. So, the two make a deal that Spamton would stay with Tenna, at least until Tenna loses all sense of self. Only then, is Spamton permitted to leave. Whether he does or not, is up to him. After all, it's easier to break deals when the other party is slowly losing their ability to think at all.

In-game story

This version of Deltarune is fairly different story wise and gameplay wiseThe fun gang shows up in TV world months after Tenna had become NEO. The first person they meet isn't Tenna, but instead Spamton. He claims that there is a ravenous beast that somehow got into TV World and that the fun gang needed to save them. As time went on and they progressed more through TV world, however, more was revealed.“Oh the beast? It's nothing more than a mindless creature"
“Fine you want to know more? Let's just say…once upon a time it were an employee here until they went rogue”
“I insist, there's nothing more to it. They're a stupid employee!”
“FINE, because you keep pushing so much, I'll say it. He wasn't just any employee, he was the boss of this place.”
"...he was once a beautiful person. Beloved by all. But then, some idiot lightners abandoned him. And he turned out like this.”
"He thought…somehow he though that in order to be loved he had to become something else. To hurt himself."
“But he was so blinded by pain he couldn't realize how much I loved him all along.”
Spamton acts as Gerson in a way where he's the main presence in TV world as you complete other missions caused by Tenna (save some pippins or whatever). In the same vein, you also meet Tenna occasionally through small encounters. At first he seems malicious, doing anything to keep the fun gang entertained via convoluted game shows and elaborate traps, but towards the end of the chapter he sounds primitive (speaking using telegraphic speech, often resorting to screaming or making noises). He's losing his consciousness and sense of self and you get to watch it happenThe fun gang attempt to get Spamton to help them during the boss fight, to say goodbye before they put him out of his misery or whatever, but Spamton refuses. He thinks Tenna is too far gone and that there's no use saying goodbye to a thing. For the most part, though, he's scared to face Tenna. Scared that after all that they'd been through, Tenna might not even recognize Spamton anymore. When the fun gang finally fights Tenna face to face, it's less of a fight and more stalling. Tenna's body is breaking apart the more he exerts himself, first being intimidating with crazy attacks but eventually becoming pathetic as more limbs and body parts get cut off by the fun gang or just breaking off due to over exertion.Eventually, Tenna just simply breaks apart and all that's left of him is his CRT head and his body, with the rest of his limbs are detached and lie around him
Spamton finally shows himself to talk to Tenna, and because the NEO body is losing its affect on Tenna, they get to have a clearer conversation. What they say is still to be decided
Whether or not Tenna lives depends on if you spare all the enemies or not, as usual.
If you did spare all the enemies, the knight will slash Tenna's NEO wings and Spamton will be able to repair Tenna.
If you did not spare all the enemies, the knight will slash tenna's screen (with the wings having fallen off during battle) and Spamton will also get caught in the crossfire, killing them both.
